Join us for a hands-on poultry processing workshop at Dancing Bear Farm, where you will have the chance to learn how to process chickens from slaughter to packaging!
This class is suitable for complete beginners and those looking to brush up their processing skills. Ages 12+ are welcome to join in. Registration is required. Click here to register.
At Dancing Bear Farm we raise Freedom Ranger chickens on pasture. Our birds are able to range free during the day and are kept in shelters at night. Our shelters are moveable by hand, allowing us to move the birds to forage on fresh pasture each day. Participants will have the chance to visit our poultry pasture.
Included in this three hour class:
Tips to raise meat chickens on pasture: shelter, feed, rotation, predator protection, and more
Learn the tools and equipment needed for an efficient processing day
Hands-on practice with all aspects of chicken processing: humane slaughter, scalding and plucking, removal of internal organs, and packaging for freezer storage
Navigating federal and state (NH) regulations around processing and sale of poultry
Participants will be able to take home their whole, bagged bird at the end of the class
Knives will be provided but we welcome you to bring your own if you wish. Wear clothes you don't mind getting messy and closed-toed shoes. Bring a cooler with ice to bring home your processed chicken.
