Meet the DBF Team

Julia Lownie
Julia is the lead farmer, teacher, and creative force behind Dancing Bear Farm. Happiest when surrounded by nature and holding a cup of coffee, Julia is a wildlife biologist, certified nature-based educator, and previously led the modernization of a farm-education program outside of Boston. She’s spent years learning about silvopasture, grazing rotations, soil health, and permaculture systems, and is feeling eager to implement all of this at our farm! When not out on the fields, you might find Julia foraging, hiking with her horse, forging community connections, or tending to her impressive house plant collection.

Cameron Lownie
Cam spends most of his time teaching 4th grade up the road, but can also be found helping out on the farm. Our social media manager and official copy editor, he is also willing to dig post holes for fencing and lend a hand with chores - even if he’d rather be indoors with a cat on his lap and a book in hand. Cam has extensive experience in education and youth programs and works with Julia to run the DBF summer camp.

Mary Lownie
Mary is the lead gardener of Dancing Bear Farm, and she is indeed a gifted gardener, but that is only the tip of her skill iceberg. She is a savant with a spreadsheet, nimble with a needle and thread, proficient with a paintbrush, a capable canner, brilliant with a budget, and a skilled scheduler. She glues the team together, and reminds us that farms can’t function without patience, grace, and home cooked meals.

Ken Lownie
In a former life, Ken was a software executive, but these days is Dancing Bear Farm’s lead builder and head of business planning. Day-to-day tasks for Ken include repairing the tractor, writing grants, firing up the grill, working on our furniture reupholstery side business, and fixing the many small things that break every day on a farm. If it involves manual labor or grease, Ken is there. While we politely discourage any further plumbing attempts, overall he is the one who keeps the property running.
