Our multigenerational DBF farm team brings a combination of farming experience, business acumen, building skills, education credentials, ecology expertise, and a great deal of hands-on experience.
Julia Latady: In addition to her work as a school garden coordinator, Julia is currently micro-farming in Leverett MA and planning the next phase of the DBF expansion. She is a wildlife biologist, a certified nature-based educator, and led the modernization of a farm-education program outside of Boston. Julia also runs workshops on reducing food waste and building healthier soils using composting worms, laying hens, mushrooms, and a no-till garden.
Cameron Lownie. Cam is currently an elementary school teacher in Springfield MA and works alongside Julia micro-farming in Leverett, MA. He has extensive experience in education and youth programs, and aims to continue his public school teaching career in New Hampshire while also contributing to the development of DBF.
Mary Lownie. Mary has retired from her career as a finance and HR executive, and currently manages operations on the DBF farmstead. She has bookkeeping and accounting skills, and is an accomplished gardener who has created a half-acre produce garden on the farmstead.
Ken Lownie. Ken works in the software industry, assisting start-ups during their formative stages. He has a Masters Degree in business from the Sloan School of Management at MIT. He has extensive experience in developing business plans and managing sales functions, but his passion is the physical labor of building and renovating the farmstead.
